The Problem: Tech advances especially in AI capabilities like deepfakes open new frontiers for creating highly realistic multimedia disinformation at scale and speed. Malicious actors could exploit AI to automate disinformation campaigns aimed at manipulating elections, inciting violence, or undermining institutions.
Our Strategy: We proactively research emerging technology threats by analyzing model outputs, investigating potential use cases, and studying real-world deployments. Our technical findings guide the creation of open-source detection and mitigation tools. In parallel, we engage policymakers on governance frameworks to prevent AI misuse while enabling beneficial applications.
